HIPAA
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 2006 mandated significant changes to the regulations governing the provision of health benefits, the delivery of and payment for healthcare services and the security and confidentiality of individually identifiable, protected health information (PHI).
- The HIPAA Privacy Rule provides for the privacy of an individual’s health information.
- The HIPAA Security Rule provides for the security of an individual’s health information when the information is transmitted electronically.

UC Irvine Healthcare and University Physicians and Surgeons are committed to protecting your medical information. We record services you receive for use in your care and treatment.
