What to Expect from a Breast Lift

breast lift is a popular procedure that lifts sagging breasts back into a more youthful, perkier position. A breast lift on its own will not enlarge the breasts, but it can be combined with breast augmentation in order to improve both shape and size.

If you are interested in a breast lift, don’t hesitate to contact the experienced breast surgeons at UCI Plastic Surgery by calling 714-456-3077 to schedule your consultation.

What Can a Breast Lift Accomplish?

A breast lift is generally the best option if you have breasts that sag significantly, with nipples that point downward rather than straight forward. Sagging of the breasts can happen for a variety of reasons, including:

  • Age
  • Pregnancy and childbirth
  • Breastfeeding
  • Massive weight loss

If your breasts only have minor sagging, then you may not need a full breast lift. Small breast implants can sometimes work to lift the breasts when sagging is not that pronounced.

In addition, if you want to enlarge your breasts as well as lift them, it is possible to combine a breast lift and a breast augmentation. Let your surgeon know what your goals are during your consultation so that he or she can help you decide on the best treatment plan.

What Is Recovery Like After a Breast Lift?

Immediately after your breast lift surgery, you will need someone to help you out around the house. You should rest and recover for the first few days while someone else takes care of household chores and child care. You’ll be prescribed painkillers, which you should take as needed.

Most patients are able to return to work within one to two weeks, depending on the extent of your surgery and how long it takes for you to feel ready. Each person is different, and you should listen to your body to determine when to return to work.

You’ll need to refrain from strenuous activity for a month or two, although light exercise such as walking is encouraged. Try not to lift weights or perform any exercise that puts strain on your pectoral muscles until you are cleared by your surgeon.

Scarring After a Breast Lift

Breast lift surgery does result in more scarring than breast augmentation alone. However, your scars should fade significantly over the course of a year, and most of our patients find that the end result of having perkier breasts is well worth the trade-off of scars.

Your surgeon will give you instructions for how to take care of any scarring in order to achieve the best results. There is always a chance that your scars will not heal well, but if that happens, there are ways to help correct the appearance of the scars.

If you are concerned about scarring from a breast lift, please bring it up during your consultation. Your surgeon will be more than happy to discuss potential outcomes with you.
