Dr. Brogan G.A. Evans is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon with advanced training in microsurgery, complex reconstruction, and the surgical care of patients affected by cancer, trauma, and other challenging conditions.
After earning his medical degree from the Texas A&M University College of Medicine, Dr. Evans completed an integrated plastic surgery residency at Yale School of Medicine. He then pursued additional fellowship training in microvascular reconstructive surgery at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, one of the world’s most established centers for cancer treatment and complex reconstruction.
Dr. Evans’ clinical training is complemented by an active interest in research. His published work has examined breast reconstruction, breast reduction techniques, fat grafting, lower-extremity reconstruction, postoperative pain control, and surgical outcomes. This combination of advanced surgical training and academic research provides a strong foundation for thoughtful, evidence-informed patient care.
About the Practice
Plastic surgery requires more than the ability to perform a procedure. It also requires a detailed understanding of anatomy, function, proportion, wound healing, and how changes to one area may affect the body as a whole.
Dr. Evans’ training has included a broad range of reconstructive procedures involving the breast, trunk, head and neck, and extremities. His fellowship experience at MD Anderson provided advanced exposure to microvascular surgery and complex oncologic reconstruction. These procedures may involve transferring tissue from one area of the body to another to restore missing tissue, repair a difficult wound, or reconstruct an area affected by cancer treatment.
Whether a patient is seeking reconstruction or another form of plastic surgery, careful planning begins with understanding the person’s medical history, anatomy, concerns, and goals. Treatment recommendations should account for both appearance and function while also considering safety, recovery, and long-term outcomes.

Research and Academic Contributions
Throughout his training, Dr. Evans has contributed to research addressing several areas of plastic and reconstructive surgery.
His work has included the study of surgical fat necrosis following breast procedures, blood supply during reduction mammaplasty, pain-management strategies for abdominally based breast reconstruction, and the evolution of lower-extremity reconstruction.
Dr. Evans has also participated in research exploring cost-effective approaches to breast reconstruction, variation in bra-cup sizing, and ways to improve the safety and recovery experience associated with reconstructive procedures.
In addition to peer-reviewed research, Dr. Evans has contributed to educational material addressing reconstructive surgical techniques, including the radial forearm flap and rectus abdominis flap. These techniques may be used when surgeons need healthy, well-vascularized tissue to reconstruct complex defects.
Research is an important part of advancing plastic surgery. By evaluating outcomes, comparing techniques, and identifying opportunities to improve patient safety, surgeons can continue refining how reconstructive and aesthetic procedures are planned and performed.
Dr. Evans’ Approach to Plastic Surgery
Every patient enters a consultation with a different medical history, anatomy, lifestyle, and reason for considering surgery. A successful treatment plan must reflect those individual circumstances rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach.
Dr. Evans’ background in complex reconstruction encourages close attention to blood supply, tissue quality, wound healing, symmetry, and the preservation or restoration of function. His research experience also supports an approach grounded in careful evaluation of surgical techniques and patient outcomes.
During the treatment-planning process, patients should have a clear understanding of the recommended procedure, available alternatives, expected recovery, potential limitations, and possible risks. Open communication allows the patient and surgeon to determine whether surgery is appropriate and which approach best supports the patient’s goals.
Get to Know Dr. Evans
What areas of plastic surgery have been central to Dr. Evans’ training?
Dr. Evans has received comprehensive plastic surgery training with additional specialization in microvascular reconstructive surgery. His academic and clinical background has included breast reconstruction, complex cancer reconstruction, lower-extremity reconstruction, fat grafting, wound management, and breast surgery.
What is microvascular reconstructive surgery?
Microvascular reconstructive surgery involves moving tissue from one part of the body to another and reconnecting very small blood vessels under magnification. This technique can help reconstruct areas affected by cancer surgery, trauma, difficult wounds, or the loss of tissue.
At MD Anderson, the microvascular reconstructive surgery fellowship includes advanced training in reconstruction of the breast, head and neck, trunk, spine, pelvis, and extremities.
How has research influenced Dr. Evans’ surgical background?
Dr. Evans has participated in research throughout his plastic surgery training. His publications have examined surgical techniques, postoperative recovery, complication risks, blood supply, and patient outcomes.
This work reflects the role research plays in identifying safer approaches, improving surgical planning, and helping physicians understand which treatments may offer meaningful benefits for appropriately selected patients.
Why is reconstructive training valuable in plastic surgery?
Reconstructive surgery requires surgeons to evaluate both form and function. They must consider how tissues move, how wounds heal, how blood reaches the surgical area, and how reconstruction may affect comfort and everyday activities.
These same principles can also be valuable when planning other plastic surgery procedures. A strong reconstructive foundation encourages careful handling of tissue, detailed anatomical planning, and close attention to balanced, durable results.
